Due to the high speeds and unpredictable terrain, a steering damper and some other bits and pieces are essential if you're considering the Finke, Hattah Desert Race, or anything fast and loose. This device will be your saviour when it comes to potential headshakes, arm fatigue or surprise debris on the track!

All of our products are designed and manufactured entirely in Australia so if you're reading this a short time out of Finke and you think you may have left it a little late, we got you covered!

WHAT IS A STEERING DAMPER AND WHY DO I NEED IT FOR DESERT RACING?

MSC Moto steering dampers are a hydraulic rotary vane dampening system that sets the maximum speed your handlebars bars can go from full lock to full lock. In the event of a sideways collision to your front wheel, the deflection will attempt to turn the handlebars in a sudden and potentially dangerous direction (A—> B). This is where your MSC Moto Steering Damper takes over.
 

 

 DEFLECTION DAMPENING (A—> B and D—> E)

The linkage arm connects to our solid billet steel paddle/rotary vane which pushes hydraulic oil through our 20 position adjuster absorbing the impact back to the frame instead of the rider’s arms. The harder you have it set, the harder it is for the oil to pass and the more it dampens the steering movement. With 20 different settings, there is a perfect setting for every situation.

 ACTIVE RETURN TO CENTRE TECHNOLOGY (B->D and E->F)

Exclusive to MSC, ACTIVE return to centre is the best of both worlds in “return to centre” damping options. The Active RTC will work out from the rider's input if the bike needs ZERO/NO Damping on return to centre, or if the rider needs FULL damping on return to centre.

SAVE YOUR HANDS AND ARMS IN THE DESERT!

Thanks to years of rigorous testing and development in the harsh conditions that come with off-road riding and racing, our all-new Apex Dampened Handlebar Mount not only reduces vibration and aids in eliminating arm pump but also eliminates twisting in the event of an accident.

HOW DO THE ANTI-VIBRATION BAR MOUNTS WORK?

Featuring the use of eight vacuum-cast polyurethane resign dampers positioned concentrically with the four handlebar clamp bolts, the APEX Bar Mounts vastly reduce the amount of vibration received through the engine and chassis while also eliminating twisting in the event of an accident, in addition, they also feature an incredibly compact design, meaning they barley lift your bar height.

The hero of these mounts are the red dampers pictured above, these polyurethane resign dampers are poured in-house and quality checked by our team of engineers prior to installation. As seen in the cutaway, the clamping point sits above the dampers, meaning jarring and vibration through your handlebars is subtly, yet VERY effectively absorbed by the dampers.

 

 

 

 

Don't sleep on the bike prep! After copping the parts you need, ensure your steed is race-ready and has had a good once-over.
